A late week in review…

This week flew by so fast, I didn’t even realize I had missed Thursday…and now it’s Monday. So, here’s a week in review, from Monday’s perspective.

Highlights of the week: 1) The Enroute: Discovering Transformational Youth Ministry training seminar I went to with all the youth leaders on Saturday.  Even though it was a long day, and the weather was beautiful outside when we were stuck inside, it was well worth it.  A chance to bond as youth leaders and put some names to things we are doing as a youth ministry as well as realize some things we could be doing better. 2) Got my guitar back from being fixed—it’s like a new guitar! 3) Recording at Dave’s with Paul and Bryan. I’ve never actually done something so professional recording-wise, and it was a lot of fun! I don’t write my own stuff—although I’ve been really encouraged by about 10 people to do so this past week—so I just did 2 covers, but it was still a blast. 4) Leading worship for church this morning, something I love and have missed. Also, hearing the whole church sing the last verse of “Come Thou Fount” acapella—it was moving.

Disappointed by: 1) Veterinarians who overcharge for unnecessary tests. I understand they’re doing their job and since animals can’t tell them what’s wrong or how they’re feeling they need to do what they can to figure out what’s wrong, but still. I believe $130 just for an ultrasound is a little outrageous if you ask me. 2) The fact that George Steinbrenner is robbing the every day person from the chance of attending a Yankee game this year.  It’s still feasible, but I have a hard time believing $350/seat for field level is justifiable.

Enjoyed watching: 1) The World Baseball Classic. The Netherlands beat the Dominican Republic—what an upset! I feel like it’s a good thing for baseball in the midst of all the other brouhaha. 2) Wall-e. It was very well done. Not sure I’ll watch it again soon, but I was very impressed with it.

Youth Ministry update: I’m headed on the Junior High Winter Retreat this coming weekend to Monadnock up in New Hampshire. I’m looking forward to it, even though it’s so late in March it could actually be a spring retreat…but, lessons learned. All the kids also seemed to be excited for the summer retreat plans which is encouraging.

Looking forward to:  As I said, the junior high winter retreat this coming weekend.  Also, spring.  It is time for winter to leave.  I though it had gone, I had moved on to spring. I had put all of winter’s notes in a box along with the clothes and everything associated with winter away.  Yet, it still comes back, unannounced, when it has overstayed its welcome. Spring, I’m yours, come back quick!

Words of Wisdom: “Yeah, Ryan snapped at me.  But, there was this twinkle in his eye that I picked up on, which said, ‘Dude, we’re friends.  I’m doing this for appearances.  I am the big boss now and I have to seem like an ogre.  But you know me and you trust me, and we like each other, and we’ll always be friends, and I would never take you for granted in a milllion years, and I miss you man, and I love you.’  His words.”  – Michael Scott
